Wild
What a time to be alive.
All,
Last week, I was in the midst of a text exchange with my husband when I couldn’t help but think of the community of Lighten Up.
We were discussing the possibility of a weekend getaway, hemming and hawing about whether or not to pull the trigger. Back and forth we went, weighing out money and logistics, the self-imposed hassle of it all tipping us toward just forgetting about it altogether.
Then, in the midst of the conversation, as I was simultaneously scrolling through my news feed, I came across this article in Time magazine.
If you don’t have the time to read it, I’ll simply share the one term that stopped me dead in my tracks and that was “extinction-level harm.”
As in extinction, Gang, of the human freakin’ race.
Upon reading that, I literally laughed out loud, the decision about our escape suddenly made.
And then I pulled up the note in my phone where I keep all my ideas, talking points and potential book and podcast titles (it’s LONG!) and wrote:
Wild: What a Time to be Alive.
Because it is. On so many levels. Which is why I hope in the midst of resistance and acceptance and fear and unknown that we can find it within ourselves to feel a sliver of awe.
And then use that awe to wake up our awareness that in this rapidly changing world one of the most powerful things we can do is enjoy the here and now.
So book the trip.
Get outside and feel your feet on the ground.
Laugh with the person you haven’t seen in far too long.
Because we will miss this.
Mark my words.
Here’s to you,
