The March Lineup
A collective transition.
All,
As I work to keep myself aligned behind the scenes (a job, I am learning, where retirement does not exist), there’s a quote from Ernest Hemingway that I keep particularly close:
“Write hard and clear about what hurts.”
Because a year ago this month, that’s exactly what I set out to do with Lighten Up.
Perhaps not rooted in pain, but in a mash up of concern, curiosity and, ultimately, hope, I’ve spent the past year exploring various facets of our wellbeing and how they’re constantly being challenged by developments in our modern world.
Today, re-reading our inaugural post feels like a sort of foreshadowing. The points that were raised are now – just 365 days later – only magnified, larger in both their uncertainty and scope.
As are, it seems, the emotions surrounding the trajectory of our collective journey.
Which is why this month, I am buckling down on the pull to write hard and clear about what it means to be a human on this earth.
If you have not yet gotten the memo – if you somehow have managed to dodge the headlines, the dinner party conversations, or the bot cutely named Rose ready to assist with your customer service needs – our way of existing is changing. Rapidly.
This is no longer a fringe topic or one where participation is optional.
Quite the contrary, a historic transition is well afoot, and it’s tempting to believe we don’t have a say.
But we do.
Not in terms of reverting backward, but in how we choose to move forward, in how we face the uncertainty and leverage it as a way to redefine ourselves.
Both individually, as we learn new things and lose tried-and-trues, forcing us to take long, hard looks in the mirror.
And as communities, as we will need to rise up to cultivate and protect what matters most.
So this is what we’ll be exploring this month on Lighten Up: Transitions.
Specifically, how can we anticipate needs – and tend to our own – when the story you’re living in is in the midst of being re-written.
Our March Lineup is below, and as you will see, it includes some changes to the way we’ve been functioning.
More to come. But in the meantime, here’s to you!
