“It’s no surprise that it’s what so many of us are deeply craving.”

I FIND IT hard to explain. Despite being asked frequently, it’s difficult to sum up what it’s like to live and work with my husband. Ultimately, it’s an experience that needs to be embodied to be fully understood.

What I can say, though, is that it requires all of the typically-noted tenets of a successful marriage – patience, trust, listening – on steroids.

And that somewhere in that dynamic is a unique, built-in safety system that requires one of us to rise up when the other is off, because both of us cannot afford to be literally or figuratively down at once.

It is a godsend that has saved me more times than I can count.

So that is why when a couple of months back, I received a text from my husband, Carl, at 3PM on a Wednesday that simply said “I’m coming home,” I knew that it was my time to be on.

Because Carl never finishes work at 3PM. Nor does he ever leave early.
